#2 What Typhoon Sendong Leaves to us?

Thesis statement: Typhoon sendong leave a deep and painful mark on the heart of the victims.

        Philippines is prone to natural hazards like earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, typhoons, volcanic eruptions because it is located within the Pacific ring of fire. Some of these hazards then become disasters because it had caused damages on the properties, buildings, agriculture, and even lives of people. Sometimes a disaster may leave a person with nothing, no clothes, no food, no house and even loved ones. Just like what happened to Cagayan de Oro city and Iligan city that was hit by typhoon Sendong. This typhoon had leave a deep and painful mark on the heart of the residents of Cagayan and Iligan and other places too that was hit.

        Last December 17, 2011, typhoon Sendong, with international name Washi, hit the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. It was very unexpected that it would be a disastrous event. The people at that time were not ready or prepared and some may had their deep sleep at that time. According to Jojo Malig on abs-cbnNEWS.com, typhoon Sendong was the world's deadliest storm on 2011.
      
        Because of this storm, over a thousand died and leaves thousands of victims homeless and some of the members of its family is missing. It doesn't matter if a person's house was washed out but a house being washed out with the family members inside it was very tragic for the one who had survived. It is hard to start again alone with nothing.

        The survivors who are homeless was put in evacuation centers. There is a lot of donations came like clothings, medicines, foods, water and others. The needs of the victims are now fulfilled, but how about their psychological functioning? This is one of the effects of the typhoon. The psychological effects may take weeks, months, or years before it appear. The effects include fear of water, always want to be alone, nightmares and others.

        It's difficult to be hit by a typhoon like that. Houses and buildings were washed out and lives were taken. This marks on every victims and its hard for them to forget and this may remain as a tragic memory.

#1 What is Writing in the Discipline?

Writing is for all. It can be ordinary people, professionals, or even the students. They are free to write and express their feelings and ideas because writing is for all. It does not choose anyone. An individual can write whenever he/she wanted to. Some individual write to inform,to criticize, to persuade, or to entertain. When it comes to informing, an individual writes on what he know, what he/she has researched or what is in his/her field.

        Some people write about something because he/she knew it or simply it is his/her field of specialization. Writing what is in your field of specialization is called writing in the discipline. Some may be confused about the word discipline. It may mean to others following the strategies in writing like revising, drafting, or editing. It may also mean observing coherence, unity, and development but it is not. Discipline in "writing in the discipline" means your field of specialization. For example, you are a Physics student then Physics is your field of specialization. Therefore, writing in the discipline means writing according to what field you belong. It is not a free writing where you can write about your feelings, emotions or any topic you like. It is more on what will you write about your field. It involves the writer's knowledge and what will he/she research about a certain topic on his/her field.
         Writing in the discipline is best shown in a research paper where the researcher can have a more preferable work about his/her topic which is included on his/her field of specialization. As a result, the researcher's work will be satisfying and interesting to others.
         Writing in the discipline also is not a free style writing in which you can insert anything that went to your mind that is not related to your topic. It must be formal and should not be informal. Specifically, the writer must use the academic style of writing. Academic style of writing has main features which includes complexity, formality, objectivity, precision, explicitness, and accuracy. This will help the writer's work not just satisfying but more satisfying.
